How it Works

Fresh Fresh Fresh

It is pretty easy


We will begin at 10:00 am in the instructor’s kitchen to start dessert. After all there is always fresh fruit at the market, so before we set off to the market we will get a pie crust done and chilling in the refrigerator.


While we are preparing the pie dough, we will talk about the culinary heritage of Delmarva. Once the vegetable garden for Philadelphia and New York, today we still grow a vast variety of fresh produce that is all available at the farmers’ market. But we are also known for our oysters, clams, crabs, lobsters, fin fish and chicken – lots of chicken. Delmarva has an extended growing season and some very gifted and hard working farmers. There is always an abundance of fresh ingredients.


While the pie dough chills in the refrigerator, we will go off to the market. We will look. We will talk. We will plan a menu, buy the ingredients, and return to the kitchen to cook, chat and eat. We might even come back from the market with fresh cream and wild black raspberries to make a fool, rather than a pie for desert. You never know. 


We will prepare a casual, yet elegant, lunch – one that you will feel confident making at home with similar ingredients. You can watch, or you can roll up your sleeves and get to work. You decide your level of involvement in preparing each dish.


A few more details


While fish and produce are always fresh at the market, meat and poultry is not always available.  Therefore your instructor, depending on availability, may have ordered fresh meat or poultry (pork, beef, and chicken) in advance (from market vendors or from a local farm).  That is all the pre-planning there is. All other menu items will be based on what is at the market that day.




The Rehoboth Beach Farmers' Market is in Grove Park, our kitchen is just around the corner.


Costs & payment


The cost is $75 per person. You will receive a group discount for 2 or more people.
